We failed to take appropriate steps after Russia occupied Georgian territories, MEP Cramon says
MEP Viola von Cramon has expressed her disappointment at the lack of progress in addressing the situation on the occupation line in Georgia. She made these comments while visiting the administrative line in the village of Odzi, accompanied by participants of the Tbilisi international conference Defeating Putinism.
Von Cramon highlighted the importance of showing solidarity with Georgia and reiterated the European Parliament’s commitment to Georgia’s territorial integrity as a top priority. She noted that despite political developments in Tbilisi aimed at improving relations with Russia, the situation on the ground at the occupation line remains unchanged.
The MEP also pointed out that the international community missed an opportunity to take appropriate steps after Russia occupied Georgian territories, and this was a significant mistake. Von Cramon emphasized that while there has been significant solidarity with Ukraine, the same level of attention has not been given to Georgia.
Cramon’s remarks were made in the context of the upcoming 7th Tbilisi International Conference titled Defeating Putinism organized by the McCain Institute for International Leadership, the George W. Bush Institute, and the Center for Economic Policy Research. The conference aims to address issues related to Russian aggression and its impact on regional security and stability.
