Shalva Papuashvili: True partnership shows new U.S. administration's success against informal networks
“Georgia has been an exemplary partner for the USA, not only in this region but also on a global scale. We have stood by their side in every conflict where we could participate—be it in Iraq or Afghanistan—surpassing nearly every NATO member nation and ranking as the fourth largest contributor in terms of contingent size,” stated Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.
According to Papuashvili, the current situation that has developed between Georgia and the USA is not Georgia’s fault.
“We stood by them with all the capabilities we had, and in response, we saw that some political groups, whether in the USA or various European Union capitals, demanded from us escalation, reckless behaviour, rashness, which was a direct ticket to another war.
What went wrong in this relationship was not our fault. I think the test lies precisely in the fact that we are waiting to see, with the defeat of the ‘Deep State,’ the scale of restoration of relations with Georgia will serve as this test. The clearer this restoration of relations becomes, the more Georgian society sees true partnership, the more evident it will be that the new administration has managed to defeat these informal networks.
Many have harmful interests towards Georgia. So, of course, there will always be challenges. The issue is that in the current circumstances, we must weaken these informal networks, influential oligarchic groups to such an extent that they have no substantial influence on our country’s development or our relationships with partners,” Papuashvili declared.
