An earthquake has struck the capital city of Taiwan, Taipei, according to the Central Weather Bureau. The epicentre of the magnitude 5.7 quake was just a few miles out of the city in the mountain region of Beitou, according to Taiwan News.
The quake struck at 1.59pm local time and it is not currently known if there are any injuries, but witnesses described seeing buildings shake as a result of the tremor. It was felt in multiple cities including Taoyuan, Hualien, Taichung, Central Hsinchu, and Keelung, as well as Nantou County, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, Changhua County, Yunlin County, and Taitung County. Initial reports suggest that it struck at a depth of 86 miles.
