Senator Jeanne Shaheen: 2008 war to make start of Putin’s war on democracy
“Thirteen years ago Russia invaded Georgia, which marked the start of a prolonged conflict with Georgia. It also marked the start of Putin’s war on democracy,” said Senator Jeanne Shaheen in Twitter on the 13th anniversary of 2008 Russia-Georgia war.
“13 years ago Russia invaded Georgia, which marked the start of a prolonged conflict with Georgia. It also marked the start of Putin’s war on democracy. We will not forget Russia’s incursion and we stand by our Georgian partners in support of their sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the Senator tweeted.
Thirteen years passed after the August 2008 Russia-Georgia military hostilities. Russia recognized independence of Georgia’s regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia soon after the war. It continues non-fulfillment of the ceasefire agreement.
