Georgia’s former President Mikheil Saakashvili has echoed the solidarity rally, saying it “filled me with energy after being in bed for three days.”
In a Facebook post, Saakashvili thanked his supporters for protesting “despite intimidation.”
Ex-president’s lawyer Beka Basialaia announced that Saakashvili’s border crossing case would be tried tomorrow. The lawyer believes the government is trying to prevent Saakashvili from appearing in court.
The Special Penitentiary Service claims Mikheil Saakashvili’s transfer to court from prison hospital poses a risk for his health as he halted much of his treatment. It pledges to ensure the ex-president’s virtual involvement in the trial or a hearing at the N18 Gldani prison hospital.
Earlier today, United National Movement held a protest rally, marching from Avlabari metro station to Baratashvili street. They demand Mikheil Saakashvili’s transfer to the civilian clinic from the prison hospital, early proportional elections and the government’s resignation.
