Saakashvili planned assassination of some opposition leaders, PM Garibashvili says
Former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili has been planning “a dirty provocation” that the incumbent government prevented, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili stated on Sunday.
PM Garibashvili elaborated on an alleged scenario that Saakashvili’s supporters had in mind to “completely delegitimize the incumbent government.”
“At the culmination, they could have mobilized 10,000 people as a maximum, and naturally, we would have to arrest him using the riot police. In the meantime, the assassination of several opposition leaders was an option in their scenario. Opinions have divided and tensions are high within their party, part of which, including Nika Melia (UNM Chair), is against this idea. By the way, Melia is happy now as Misha is in jail,” the Prime Minister stated.
Mikheil Saakashvili was arrested in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi on October 1. He is charged with several criminal offences.
