Russian naval base in occupied Abkhazia to endanger whole region, President says

“Russia’s unlawful, criminal, and outrageous decision to open another military and first naval base in Ochamchire, on the territory of sovereign Georgia threatens not just Georgia but the whole region,” Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili stated on Friday.

“This is a big hazard for the Black Sea security, the future Anaklia port, and Georgia’s European path.

Russia is attempting to increase its influence and dominance in the Black Sea region with this move.

I urge Georgia’s partners and the international community to act promptly,” reads the statement.
