Rose Square in Tbilisi will be renamed into First Republic Square – the decision was made at the sitting of Naming and Symbolic Commission of Tbilisi Sakrebulo (City Assembly). The issue will now be put for voting at the sitting of Sakrebulo.
Tinatin Nibloshvili, Chairperson of the Commission explained the choice with the 100th anniversary of establishment of First Democratic Republic of Georgia on May 26 this year.
Members of National Movement and European Georgia parties did not participate in the sitting in protest. They claimed that the majority was fighting with Rose Revolution moment in Georgia’s history and did not want to take part in ‘circus.’
