Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili is leading a delegation to Romania to discuss Georgia’s candidacy for the European Union and gain Romanian support.
Papuashvili noted the crucial role Romania plays in Georgia’s relations due to various ongoing projects, such as the Black Sea Deepwater Cable connecting Georgia and Romania, which will facilitate the export of renewable energy from Georgia to the European Union.
“Romania has a special role in the current integration process. It has shown special support for Moldova, and we hope for even more support from them in this regard. We have recently submitted comprehensive packages of bills to the Venice Commission. I am confident we will receive positive evaluations, demonstrating our commitment to this process. The crucial factor is for the European Union to make a fair decision and grant the country candidate status,” the Speaker stated.
Papuashvili highlighted the ongoing reforms in Georgia and the country’s readiness for EU candidacy.
During this visit, the Speaker will meet with the President of the Senate of Romania, the Acting President of the Chamber of Deputies of Romania, and representatives of the committees of both chambers of the Parliament. Papuashvili will address the members of the Romanian Senate during a plenary session.
The visit includes meetings with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania. Parliament Speaker will participate in a roundtable discussion organized by the President of the Euro-Atlantic Sustainability Center.
