Resistance Movement invites foreign allies for May 26 events, Zourabishvili says

Former Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili has announced that the “Resistance Platform” held a virtual meeting with Georgia’s international supporters to discuss upcoming Independence Day events.

Speaking to reporters, Zourabichvili said the online meeting included Members of the European Parliament, representatives from European national parliaments, as well as representatives from the US Congress and international organizations.

“The ‘Resistance Platform’ is based on the Georgian Charter, and our joint goal is new elections and the release of prisoners,” the ex-President noted.

She explained that the platform is already working with various groups: “Today we had the opportunity to plan for May 26 together with protest organizations, NGOs, and cultural organizations. We have also invited our friends to join us on this day to express their solidarity with the Georgian people.”

Zourabichvili described the current political situation in Georgia, criticizing recent decisions by the ruling Georgian Dream party.

“They are introducing Russian-style laws but presenting them as British. This is a continuation of repression and requires a stronger response from our European friends,” she stated.

The former President added that a staff member of US Congressman Joe Wilson’s staffer attended the virtual meeting and provided updates on recent developments, including discussions about the MEGOBARI Act

It was a very productive meeting, and we will continue this work,” Zourabichvili concluded.
