Representative of Amnesty International - Security forces must respect rights of demonstrators to peacefully assemble and express dissent

As police move to break up protests in Georgia, Amnesty International has been clear: security forces must respect the rights of demonstrators to peacefully assemble and express dissent – Daniel Balson, Advocacy Director for Europe and Central Asia for Amnesty International, USA, said in a post on Twitter.

According to Balson, the U.S. government representatives are closely observing the ongoing developments in Tbilisi, and the way how security forces treat protesters will be detected in Washington.

The Riot Police used water cannon to disperse protesters near Georgia’s parliament early morning on Tuesday. Twenty-eight people were detained during the protest late at night on November 25.
