Report: Georgia high prison population rate than average European standards
Georgia has high prison rate than the average European standards – reads the report of the University of Lausanne prepared for the Council of Europe about penitentiary facilities in Europe.
Based on the document, 252 prisoners were registered per 100 000 people in Georgia in 2017-2018. Russia outruns Georgia with 418 prisoners per 100 thousand people. Azerbaijan comes on the third place. Lithuania and Moldova are among the top-5 countries.
Also according to the report, prison density decreased by 43% in the period of 2008 – 2018. In 2017, 10 prisoners died in penitentiary facilities out of them 2 inmates committed suicide.
