RAND Corporation's report envisages Western assistance to Georgia in scheme of deterrence strategy against Russia
According to the report of the Analysis Centre “RAND Corporation”, assistance to Georgia is envisaged in the scheme of deterrence strategy against Russia in the Black Sea region.
The report notes that Russia’s occupation and militarization of Crimea, modernization of the Black Sea Fleet, and expanded forces in the Southern Military District have strengthened Moscow’s leverage in the region, which aims to dissuade and intimidate neighbors in order to realize its political-economic and harmful influence.
According to the report, the deployment of advanced air and coastal defense systems in Romania and Bulgaria to counter Russian offensive missile threats, expanded NATO exercises, and continued Western assistance to Ukraine and Georgia in the development of their national defense capabilities could enhance regional deterrence of the West.
