Public Defender visits Saakashvili at Vivamed Clinic, notes his health improvement
“I visited all the convicts and accused at the Vivamed clinic. I also visited Mikheil Saakashvili [Georgia’s jailed ex-president] and spoke with him. At least once a year, I visit all penitentiary institutions to see the convicts myself,” said Public Defender Levan Ioselian.
Regarding Mikheil Saakashvili’s health condition, the Ombudsman noted that he could not disclose specifics but observed an improvement compared to his previous visit.
“I cannot comment on Saakashvili’s health condition, but he looks much better now since my last visit. There were no discussions about his return to the penitentiary facility. It’s not within my jurisdiction or that of the clinic. I receive health updates, but confidentiality prevents me from discussing them publicly. We had a brief conversation during which he thanked the Public Defender’s Office for regularly monitoring his condition throughout the year and sharing information with the public. I assured him that we will continue to monitor not only his situation but that of everyone under our care within our mandate,” Ioselian stated.
“He did not make any specific requests to me or the doctors,” he added.
