Public Defender urges MIA not to use force against peaceful protesters
The Georgian Public Defender has issued a call to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, urging them not to use special means against the peaceful participants of the rally and to respect their constitutional right to assembly.
“The Public Defender is closely monitoring the ongoing events on Rustaveli Avenue. By 17:15 on May 14, the Ministry of Internal Affairs issued a warning about the potential disbandment of the entire rally. The public defender believes that the actions of a few individuals who violated the rules of peaceful assembly and the requirements of the law should not necessitate the disbandment of the entire rally after individual measures have been taken against those specific participants,” the Public Defender states.
