Public Defender calls on MIA to ensure freedom of expression of every citizen
Georgian Public Defender Levan Ioseliani called on the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) to ensure freedom of expression and the right to assemblage to all citizens in a peaceful environment.
Georgian Ombudsman echoed the developments over Tbilisi Pride Festival. He said the freedom of expression and manifestation is protected by the Georgian Constitution; any group can use the right regardless of how unacceptable its viewpoints may be to any part of the society.
Levan Ioseliani underscored that the government is responsible to ensure the protection of any right per the national legislation.
“The Public Defender calls on the Ministry of Internal Affairs to ensure the protection of the freedom of expression and assembly of all citizens, most importantly, in a safe environment. In addition, to respond to all violations of the law in a timely and appropriate manner,” the statement said.
