Prosecutor’s Office brings legal proceedings against former Deputy Interior Minister

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia opened a criminal case against Giorgi Lortkipanidze, former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, for assisting ex-president President Mikheil Saakashvili in the illegal crossing of the Georgian state border.

Prosecutor Levan Vepkhvadze stated that Ukrainian citizen Lortkipanidze plotted a detailed plan on how Mikheil Saakashvili could arrive in Georgia.

On December 9, Tbilisi City Court tried ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili in the illegal border crossing case, though the latter did not attend the hearing. The Ministry of Internal Affairs opened an investigation into the illegal crossing of the border by Mikheil Saakashvili on October 1, the same day when Georgia’s third president was arrested. Four more people are charged in this case.
