Prosecutor Confirms Blogger's Wife Admits Guilt in Case Involving Privacy Violations
Following the closed trial of the case, Prosecutor Ani Khakhanashvili reported that Mariam Iashvili, the wife of blogger Ucha Abashidze, has admitted her guilt and verified the authenticity of the evidence presented against her.
According to the Prosecutor, Mariam Iashvili acknowledged that she provided sexual services to men and filmed intimate encounters.
Ucha Abashidze was absent from today’s proceedings. His attorney, Shota Tutberidze, stated that the evidence was gathered in violation of legal protocols and refrained from discussing its content.
The blogger maintains his innocence and characterizes his detention as politically motivated. The case reportedly involves approximately 80 victims.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia (MIA) arrested Ucha Abashidze on May 9 for allegedly illegally purchasing and possessing weapons and ammunition. His wife was taken into custody on May 11.
The MIA indicated that Ucha Abashidze, along with his wife, “intended to unlawfully obtain and store private life secrets of various individuals, particularly materials depicting intimate relationships.”
The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia (POG) confirmed that both Ucha Abashidze and his wife face charges related to the illegal acquisition and possession of private life secrets.
