Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze held a meeting with Commissioner Johannes Hahn for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy, who is visiting Tbilisi to attend the opening of the European School for the Eastern Partnership.

The meeting emphasized the importance of opening the European school in Georgia, the first of its kind in the Eastern Neighborhood. The school will enable students from six countries to receive high-level undergraduate education and to obtain international bachelor’s degree diplomas in European studies. According to the Prime Minister, education is one of the top priorities of the Georgian Government. Bakhtadze thanked the EU for the implementation of said project.

The parties underlined the new, top-level format of dialogue with the EU, with its first meeting to be held in November under the chairmanship of the President of the European Commission and the Prime Minister of Georgia in Brussels.

The conversation paid special attention to Georgia’s progress in democratic development and European integration. The Prime Minister spoke about the Government’s initiative to develop a roadmap designed to ensure greater alignment with the EU using all available mechanisms of cooperation.

The parties commended the steps taken and planned by the Georgian Government toward economic development. As it was emphasized, the Georgian Government attaches great importance to the allocation of 45 million euro by the EU seeking to foster the implementation of economic reforms.

The parties also discussed the complex agenda of Georgia-EU Association, the successful implementation of the Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area Agreement, also the further intensification of cooperation in bilateral, regional, and multilateral formats.
