Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia and executives of private clinics engaged in COVID management, during today’s meeting, discussed the importance of further use of hotels and mobilization of additional measures for preventing hospital sector overload.

The Head of Government emphasized that, in light of the growing numbers of infection cases, the hospital sector must be unburdened, to prevent obstacles to providing severe and critical patients with beds. According to the Prime Minister, ensuring against hospital sector overload requires the accommodation of moderate and mild cases in hotels, also treatment of asymptomatic and mild cases at home, with active consultations with family physicians.

The Prime Minister expressed hope that the 2-month plan of restrictions will result in a tangible reduction of mobility throughout the country, and that will unburden the hospital sector and stabilize the situation in following phases.

The executives of private clinics briefed the Prime Minister on the supply of beds, additional resources attracted since the last meeting, and reserves that can be mobilized, if need be. Strong emphasis remains on the management of severe and critical cases, and the number of intensive therapy beds has increased in the past week, the meeting pointed out.

The meeting at the Administration of the Government was attended by Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Maya Tskitishvili, Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze, Deputy Health Minister Tamar Gabunia, and Head of the Task Force at the Interagency Coordination Council Alexandre Khojevanishvili. The Prime Minister continues a series of regular meetings with clinic executives.
