President reverses decision on PM candidate announcement before elections

The President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, has announced that she will not disclose her candidate for Prime Minister or the composition of the technical caretaker government before the upcoming elections.

In an interview with Formula TV, Zourabichvili acknowledged that she has a candidate in mind but will defer to the preferences of four opposition parties, which believe that this decision should be made after the elections.

“I had a candidate for the prime ministership, and I still do… I am in consultation with these four parties because there should not be any dissonance. They believe it would be better to resolve this issue after the elections,” she explained.

Zourabichvili also indicated that discussions regarding the structure of the technical government—whether it will be entirely technical or a combination of technical and political—will commence after the elections.

Previously, on October 12, she had announced her intention to name the technical government before the elections.
