Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili’s impeachment hearing has ended on Thursday.
Merab Turava, the chairman of the Constitutional Court, stated that the Plenum would reach a decision within the terms outlined by the Constitution, which would then be presented to the Georgian Parliament and made public on the court’s website.
Irakli Kobakhidze, the leader of the parliamentary majority, and MPs Giorgi Kakhiani, Anri Okhanashvili, and Tengiz Sharmanashvili represented the interests of 80 legislators, while Tamar Chugoshvili, a former Georgian Dream MP, and Maia Kopaleishvili, a former judge of the Constitutional Court, represented the President.
Kobakhidze said: “We believe that Salome Zourabichvili and the radical opposition, which is planning revolutionary processes, are in an alliance. This is how we feel about Salome Zourabichvili politically. It is embarrassing to us. Salome Zourabichvili directly opposes not only Article 52, but also Article 78.”
Kopaleishvili said:” They don’t care if the Constitution was violated or not, they want the Georgian President out of office .”
On October 3, the Constitutional Court launched a substantive consideration of the lawsuit against the President over her alleged violation of the Constitution through her departure on an official visit overseas without the Government’s permission.
