President Charles Michel's letter to EC members ahead of Prague leaders meetings
“With the dramatic consequences of Russia’s war affecting European countries on many fronts, the inaugural summit of the European Political Community (EPC), slated for 6 October in Prague, will bring together countries on the European continent and provide a platform for political coordination,” European Council President Charles Michel said in his invitation letter.
President Michel explained that the EPC meeting aims to bring Leaders together “on an equal footing and to foster political dialogue and cooperation on issues of common interest so that, together, we work on strengthening the security, stability and prosperity of Europe as a whole.”
“During the various exchanges planned, you will have the opportunity to discuss themes such as peace and security, the economic situation, energy and climate, and migration and mobility. No formal written outcome of the European Political Community is envisaged,” reads the latter.
The EPC summit will be followed by an informal meeting of the European Council on 7 October, discussing the three “most pressing – and interlinked – issues for us all,” namely Russia’s war in Ukraine, energy and the economic situation.
Charles Michel pledged that “our solidarity with Ukraine and its people remains unwavering.”
“We will continue to strengthen our restrictive measures to further increase pressure on Russia to end its war. At our meeting, we will discuss how to continue providing strong economic, military, political and financial support to Ukraine for as long as it takes,” reads the letter.
