The announced presentation of the translation into Armenian of the book by former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili “Awakening of Force” was cancelled due to technical reasons, the organizers of the event have reported. According to Arthur Sakunts, a rights defender, the event was cancelled for political reasons.
The information about the presentation of the book was posted on January 25 in the social network Facebook; the event was scheduled for February 7 in the house-museum of Egishe Charents in Yerevan. However, in the evening on January 27, the organizers apologized for the cancellation of the event.
The house-museum bosses explained their refusal to provide the room for the presentation with technical reasons, Mikael Nahapetyan, the organizer of the event and the translator of the “Awakening of Power” into Armenian, told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.
The cancellation of the presentation of Saakashvili’s book is a manifestation of censorship, since such an event could cause discontent of Russian authorities, said Arthur Sakunts, who is also the head of the Vanadzor Office of the Helsinki Civil Assembly, Caucasian Knot reports.
