Prague gives Milan Kundera his Czech citizenship back

Novelist Milan Kundera, the author of “The Unbearable Lightness of Being” has gained Czech citizenship 40 years after communist Czechoslovakia stripped him of citizenship following his emigration to France.

Kundera left his home country for France in 1975 and took French citizenship in 1981.

The Czechoslovak Socialist Republic had withdrawn Kundera’s citizenship after “The Book of Laughter and Forgetting” was published in 1979.

The novelist has been living in exile in Paris.
