Politicians remark on GD’s initiative to use electronic voting devices

Georgian opposition politicians remarked on the initiative of the Georgian Dream (GD) party to use electronic voting devices starting in 2024.

Aleko Elisashvili, Citizens party MP, said the system would end election frauds and machinations but wished for introducing electronic ballot-counting machines.

Girchi party lawmaker Sandro Rakviashvili believes the initiative would be the right step to hold the elections in the “proper manner.” “Such a system will raise public confidence in elections and stop allegations about the legitimacy of the polls,” Rakviashvili claimed.

Strategy Aghmashenebeli MP Paata Manjgaladze informed his party had prepared a similar project, promising to back the GD initiative “if we speak of the same”. Further, Manjgaladze clarified electronic technologies could prevent human errors and manipulations affecting elections.

On Tuesday, the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party announced an intention to use electronic voting devices extensively from 2024 for voter registration and ballot casting.
