Police apprehend father of juvenile detainee Z.Kh. (accused in Giorgi Shakarashvili case) for threat, falsification of evidence, false testimony

The police detained the father of juvenile detainee Z.Kh. (accused in Giorgi Shakarashvili criminal case) on the basis of the respective court decision. The mentioned person has been detained for threat, falsification of pieces of evidence of a particularly grave criminal case and false testimony, said Mamuka Chelidze, the Director of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

As a result of operative and investigative activities, father of Z.Kh. – accused in the criminal case of Giorgi Shakarashvili, plotted and committed the crime in order to avoid the impending punishment for his son by the evidence falsification and obstruction of the investigation, noted Chelidze.

“In particular: detainee contacted his friend and ordered to purchase two unregistered mobile phones and three SIM cards as well as to approach the place of residence of Guram Amirkhanashvili and send short text messages to the mentioned phones with pre-agreed texts.

Friend of the detained person went to Vazisubani settlement, in vicinities of Guram Amirkhanashvili residence building, from where he sent a text message (elaborated with prior agreement) from one of the previously purchased mobile phones to another one, which was already owned by the father of juvenile Z.Kh,” said Chelidze.

MIA also said that according to a pre-elaborated plot, the accused was moving in vicinities of the administrative buildings of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Security Service to fit within the desirable timeframe, purposefully receiving and sending short text messages from the mentioned locations.

The investigation established that father of juvenile detainee Z.Kh. created false evidence, as if representatives of the law enforcement agencies contacted Guram Amirkhanashvili (witness in the criminal case) through specially purchased mobile phone.

“Herewith, with an intent to obstruct criminal justice, the accused gave false testimony to the court in connection with the mentioned crime episode.

In addition to the mentioned, detainee systematically made statements through various media sources and threatened others involved in the murder case of Giorgi Shakarashvili.

In particular, the detainee made threats to the direction of witnesses: Guram Amirkhanashvili and Iakob Bregvadze, as well as the uncle of the late Giorgi Shakarashvili – Mirian Nikoladze with damage to health and liquidation. The latter was also threatened through the social network,” stressed the Ministry.

Investigation of the case is in progress under the article 151, I part and 369 (1) III part as well as article 370, II and III parts envisaged by the Criminal Code of Georgia.
