POG says physician charged for nurse Megi Bakradze's death

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia (POG) on Wednesday published a charge resolution into the case of a 27-year-old nurse Megi Bakradze, who died in Akhaltsikhe clinic following an allergic reaction to the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine in March 2021.

The doctor was charged under the second part of Article 130 of the Georgian Criminal Code, (leaving a sick person in danger), which is punishable by imprisonment for three to five years, the POG added.

Under the coronavirus inoculation rule, as a precaution, those who have been vaccinated are asked to remain in the facility after getting their jobs.

According to the POG, late Bakradze must be monitored in a waiting area for about 30 minutes after the shot. The attending physician observed Bakradze with redness on her neck and chest 20 minutes after the jab, which considered as a post-vaccination complication, anaphylactic shock. Despite Bakradze’s condition, the doctor left the facility without providing basic first aid.

The POG had previously charged three people, including the said doctor, with providing false information over the case in 2021.
