PM: Veterans understand true value of peace, grateful for your heroism and dedication
Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze pledged continued support for Georgia’s veterans and announced the expansion of state programs during his speech at the Veterans’ Day event.
Kobakhidze congratulated the veterans and highlighted several programs the government has implemented to improve the well-being of veterans and their families.
“Monthly payments to veterans rose from 500 GEL in 2014 to 1200 GEL today. Household subsidies are now available to all veterans, not just those of retirement age, benefitting 45,000 veterans. Veterans receive discounts on municipal transport, train travel, and services from the State Services Development Agency. Veterans have a dedicated healthcare package under the state’s universal healthcare program, with 100% medical coverage up to 15,000 GEL annually. The government launched rehabilitation initiatives for war veterans. Children of veterans receive state-funded grants for higher education. Veterans are given preference in state-run training programs. Programs support veterans in forming associations, cooperatives, and farms to encourage economic activity,” he said.
Kobakhidze emphasized that further improvements will be discussed during the 2025 budget planning process. He praised the efforts of the State Department of Veterans Affairs and affirmed the government’s commitment to peace and stability.
“We are grateful for your heroism and dedication to the motherland. Consolidating peace is essential for our nation’s progress, and no one knows the price of peace better than you,” Kobakhidze said, thanking the veterans.
He contrasted the current government’s efforts with previous administrations, stating that prior governments did not offer adequate social guarantees. Kobakhidze highlighted the creation of the State Department of Veterans Affairs and stressed that veterans’ well-being remains a top priority.
“The strength of a state is reflected in how it treats its defenders,” he concluded, urging unity for further progress and thanking veterans for their contribution to building a prosperous and peaceful future for Georgia.
