“The victory in Didgori battle exemplifies Georgian unity, perseverance, military glory, and heroism,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze emphasized in his speech at the Didgoroba public holiday.
Kobakhidze highlighted that the battle, fought nine centuries ago, is one of the greatest military-strategic victories in world history. It played a crucial role in defining Georgia’s European identity, which underpins its current aspirations for integration into the European family.
“Today, we commemorate the most pivotal date in our homeland’s history. The victory in Didgori battle exemplifies Georgian unity, perseverance, military glory, and heroism.
This triumph significantly influenced our country’s development, establishing the foundation for Georgia’s freedom and statehood.
The Battle of Didgori heralded the golden age of Georgian history – marked by political, economic, cultural, religious, and educational revival. It was a turning point, cementing Georgia’s status as a powerful state in the region and affirming its Christian values, which continue to shape our national identity and unique culture.
Thus, the Battle of Didgori played a crucial role in defining Georgia’s European identity, which is central to our integration aspirations today,” said the Prime Minister.
Kobakhidze also noted that through dignity and self-sacrifice for the motherland, Georgia can overcome significant challenges, maintain peace, unite the country, and achieve its national goals.
