Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze extended his congratulations to the citizens of Georgia on Mother Language Day.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze emphasized the profound significance of the Georgian language as a symbol of identity, spirituality, and unity.
“April 14, 1978, marks a pivotal moment in our history. When the Soviet government sought to strip the Georgian language of its state status, the riposte from Georgian society was one of patriotism, compelling the authorities to reverse their decision. The Georgian language embodies our identity, spirituality, and unity. As Ilia Chavchavadze teaches us, language is a sacred treasure and a collective heritage to be defended. This courageous support for our native tongue not only preserved Georgian as the state language but also sparked the national movement’s resurgence. It is our ongoing responsibility to enhance the distinctive role of the Georgian language in the global cultural landscape, to assist our fellow citizens in learning it, and to reinforce its significance as our state language,” said Irakli Kobakhidze.
