PM says gov't open to discussions but 'if President has destructive position, process complicates'
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday said the government “is open to discussions within the veto,” noting that “We can not plan changes from our side as this [Transparency] law will be passed in the third reading tomorrow, and no substantial changes will be made within the third reading.”
“Salome Zourabichvili indeed made a non-constructive statement, but I would want to urge her to continue acting as before.
She never wrote veto bills; they were written by NGOs or outside sources. As a result, this instrument may be utilised even today, and if Salome Zourabichvili fails to provide the chance to the government or foreign partners, she will be held accountable.
There are two weeks, May 14 to May 28, during which viewpoints might be reconciled and then reflected in the vetoed bill. However, if Salome Zourabichvili has a destructive position, this process will be complicated. We express our readiness for discussion,” Kobakhidze stated.
