PM: President's absence at Police Day event logical as she pardoned inmate who tried to burn policeman alive

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said, “Given that the President pardoned the prisoner who attempted to burn the policeman alive, her absence at Police Day [event] makes sense.”

In his remarks to the media pool, PM Kobakhidze went on to say “Last week, Salome Zourabichvili made derogatory remarks to the police officers.”

“The President’s absence from today’s event is absolutely understandable. She pardoned one of the convicts who hurled a “Molotov cocktail” at a police officer and attempted to burn him alive, so, she had no moral right to be here today.

The decision is not on me; this is a Ministry of Internal Affairs event, but it would be very absurd for the person who pardoned an inmate who attempted to burn one of the police officers to attend this event.

In addition, you may remember her completely offensive remarks to the police in recent weeks. As a result, Salome Zourabichvili had nothing to do with this event,” the Prime Minister added.
