PM on the EU's Decision: This is the greatest opportunity for Georgia, which we must use carefully and wisely so as not to allow virus to spread uncontrollably
“Our most important goal is not to allow the virus to spread uncontrollably under any circumstances, and it is in this context that we need to look at this opportunity and the appreciation demonstrated by our European partners,” Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia made this statement during the session of the government.
According to the prime minister, the decision made by the European Union, whereby Georgia has been designated a green and safe country in terms of the spread of COVID-19, is the achievement of each and every citizen.
“The decision made by the European Union, our strategic partner, has designated Georgia a green and safe country in terms of the spread of COVID-19. This achievement belongs to each and every one of our citizens. This is the result of the joint efforts we have expanded over the past five months. This is the greatest opportunity for Georgia, which we must use carefully and wisely, so as not to allow the virus to spread uncontrollably under any circumstances. Our main goal, both in terms of caring for our citizens and quickly overcoming the economic crisis – our most important goal – is to prevent the uncontrolled spread of the virus and it is precisely in this context that we need to look at the opportunity and the appreciation provided by our European partners. Of course, we have to thank them for the objective assessment that we have received with regard to the work done by the Government of Georgia in recent months – as you know, there are 15 countries in total. This is the greatest opportunity that we must use wisely, and the basic principle of making use of this opportunity should be that we must not allow the virus to spread uncontrollably under any circumstances. This is our main goal as the uncontrolled spread of the virus would endanger the health of citizens, as well as the recovery of the country’s economy in the shortest possible time,” Giorgi Gakharia stated.
According to the head of the government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already started and is actively working on the creation of green corridors with individual countries.
“For this reason, our European colleagues’ decision means that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already started and is actively working on the creation of green corridors with individual countries. This work is extremely important and must be carried out wisely. Therefore, Mr. Davit, you have already taken the appropriate steps and we must do everything to use this opportunity in an effective manner,” Giorgi Gakharia stated.
