PM – Music of genius composer Gia Kancheli turned into treasury of both Georgia and world

Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia expressed sorrow over the death of Gia Kancheli, the well-known Georgian composer.

“The music of genius composer Gia Kancheli turned into a treasury of both Georgia and the world. I express condolence to Gia Kancheli’s family members, relatives and whole Georgia,” PM said in the letter of condolence.

Gia Kancheli, the well-known Georgian composer died at the age of 84. Since the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, Kancheli has lived in Western Europe: first in Berlin, and since 1995 in Antwerp, where he became composer-in-residence for the Royal Flemish Philharmonic. He resided in Belgium.
