Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze met with Alain Berset, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly. Kobakhidze congratulated Berset on his recent election as Secretary General and wished him success in his new role.
The meeting highlighted the strong cooperation between Georgia and the Council of Europe, particularly the organization’s support in implementing reforms and advancing Georgia’s European integration. The discussion also touched upon the situation in Georgia’s occupied territories and the government’s commitment to a peaceful resolution of the conflicts. The leaders emphasized the importance of enhancing the effectiveness of international mechanisms to address these challenges.
Additionally, the conversation covered broader global issues, including security challenges facing the international community. Both sides stressed the need for joint efforts to address these challenges and underscored the significance of peace, with no viable alternative.
“I was privileged to meet with H.E. Alain Berset, Secretary General of the Council of Europe in the frames of the 79th Session of the UNGA. I am grateful for the support to Georgia’s reform process and the EU integration. Our conversation focused on enhancing cooperation across various domains and the joint effort required to address significant regional and global challenges,” the PM wrote on the social network after the meeting.
