In relation to the construction of a new, 70,000-seat international-standard stadium in Tbilisi, an interagency commission has been created under the leadership of Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
According to the Government Administration, at the inaugural meeting of the commission, prospective locations for the stadium were discussed along with infrastructural, transport, and logistics matters pertaining to construction. The commission’s members spoke about the stadium’s adaptability to host tournaments in various sports.
Specific requirements to be met by the new stadium in order to host high-level international matches were discussed in detail at the meeting.
The Head of Government was briefed on this matter by the Presidents of the Football and Rugby Federations.
An initiative to engage UEFA representatives in the process was also considered.
The Prime Minister emphasized that, given the country’s exceptional recent achievements across a variety of sports, the implementation of such a large-scale project acquires special importance.
The new stadium will enable the country to apply for hosting the 2028 Champions League final and other top-level tournaments.
