PM Kobakhidze urges improvement of American FARA to align with human rights standards

“You know my attitude toward the American FARA legislation—it is quite a harsh law. I would like to express hope that the American FARA will be improved in Parliament and brought into compliance with human rights standards,” Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.

According to him, initiating an exact analogue of the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) as the first version was certainly correct, but this bill needs improvement.

“This will be the right approach. Initiating FARA as the first version was, of course, correct, but this bill needs improvement and alignment with human rights standards. Naturally, this is Parliament’s responsibility,” the Prime Minister noted.
