Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze met with Gert Jan Koopman, Director-General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission.
According to the government’s press office, the conversation focused on Georgia-EU cooperation, including the process following the granting of the status, also the importance of opening negotiations, and Georgia’s progress on the path to implementing the 9 steps set forth by the European Commission.
“One of the topics of the conversation was the Bill on the Transparency of Foreign Influence. It was noted that the only purpose of the bill is transparency, and it places only one responsibility on NGOs, i.e. to declare their annual financing.
The Prime Minister underlined that EU membership is one of the key priorities of the Georgian Government’s foreign policy, and reforms in this direction will continue. Irakli Kobakhidze reaffirmed the authorities’ commitment to close cooperation with EU institutions and member states in this process,” reads the statement.
