PM Kobakhidze: Bidzina Ivanishvili's position logical; decisions related to state interests cannot be made amid personal blackmail
“There are official structures between Georgia and the US, there are officials who are ready to hold consultations with the American side in any format. Mr Bidzina Ivanishvili’s position is absolutely logical – decisions related to state interests cannot be made against the backdrop of personal blackmail,” Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said.
According to Irakli Kobakhidze, Bidzina Ivanishvili’s position was also known to the American side.
“We were very surprised when they issued a letter regarding this matter. When the personal blackmail that began with the start of the war in Ukraine ends, the situation will immediately change in this regard as well.
Also, we can once again confirm that there are official structures, there are officials who are ready to hold consultations with the American side in any format. There are no obstacles in this regard. Everyone should respect official etiquette and relations between Georgia and the US should proceed accordingly,” the Prime Minister noted.
The U.S. Embassy in Georgia issued a statement on Wednesday indicating that, at the request of Secretary of State Rubio, Ambassador Dunnigan sought a meeting with Honourary Chairman of the Georgian Dream party Bidzina Ivanishvili on May 22. However, Ivanishvili declined to meet with the ambassador.
