PM Kobakhidze: All agencies fully mobilized to combat severe weather

“All agencies will be fully coordinated and mobilized to combat this natural disaster,” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists in Ozurgeti after concluding a meeting at the coordination headquarters.

According to the Prime Minister, yesterday’s snowfall has significantly worsened the situation, prompting the government to involve the Defence Forces in assisting the population.

“We assessed the situation in the region, which is quite severe. Yesterday’s snowfall has made conditions even more difficult, making it necessary to involve the army and Defence Forces, a decision that has now been made. All agencies will be fully coordinated and mobilized to combat this natural disaster. The situation is challenging—a very large number of villages are cut off from the outside world, and communication cannot be established with a significant portion of these villages, so there is much work to be done in this regard. Equipment will be mobilized to maximize the restoration of connections with specific villages, and active work on this will resume immediately. We will also need to mobilize supplies, including medications, food, and firewood for heating, and we will work on this according to a specific plan.

Overall, we have a plan in place. The situation is difficult and challenging, but everything will be done to work as effectively as possible to solve all these problems,” stated the Prime Minister.

Heavy snowfall has severely impacted western Georgia, with a particularly critical situation in Guria, where the snowstorm has resulted in casualty. In parts of Guria, snow depths have surpassed two meters, creating an unprecedented emergency.
