People's Party: President's lawsuit against Foreign Influence Law proves she is frivolous

Guram Macharashvili, the general secretary of the People’s Power party, has criticized President Salome Zourabichvili for filing a lawsuit against the Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence in the Constitutional Court.

However, since the president does not acknowledge the authority of the Constitutional Court, this action is perceived as further evidence of her frivolous nature.

Macharashvili commented on Zourabichvili’s lawsuit, saying it is “funny, if not tragic” that the president, who does not recognize the Constitutional Court, has suddenly remembered the need to file a lawsuit.

“This further proves that she is a frivolous person,” he said. “Sometimes she doesn’t recognize the Constitutional Court, and when she needs it, she wants it to exist.”

Macharashvili also questioned why Zourabichvili did not file a lawsuit earlier if she was so concerned about the law.

“If it had found so much Russian – even commas and full stops – in this law, why didn’t they write a constitutional lawsuit during that time?” he asked.

“They must have been looking for arguments against the law. They read it and found no arguments inconsistent with the Constitution. It’s not difficult for Zourabichvili to use the legislation of aliens to write a constitutional lawsuit,” he said.

Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili filed a lawsuit against the Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence in Constitutional Court on July 15.
