Pentagon moves about 1,600 troops to Washington to respond to protests over Floyd's death

The Pentagon moved about 1,600 troops to the Washington area to respond to protests over the death of George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, in the custody of Minneapolis police officers.

As CNN reported, based on the independent autopsy, Floyd died of “asphyxiation from sustained pressure” when his neck and back were compressed by Minneapolis police officers during his arrest.

CNN also mentioned the report of the medical examiner’s office saying that “the cause of death is cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression.” Cardiopulmonary arrest means Floyd’s heart failed.

The former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter for the death of George Floyd.
