Penalties imposed during a state of emergency not to be written off
Penalties imposed during the state of emergency will not be written off – Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia said during the plenary sitting of the parliament when answering questions of lawmakers.
“I understand that some penalties need to be reconsidered, and we will do so for the future, but I also understand that this is the prerogative of legislative authorities and we cannot give directives to the parliament,” Gakharia said.
According to PM, penalties may represent a burden to the citizens but the government may need use of restricting measures in the future.
“The pandemic continues and the responsibility of the executive authorities is that we cannot call for annulation of the penalties. Everybody has to realize that prevention force and restrictive tools will not work otherwise,” Gakharia claimed.
