Parliament to review impeachment signatures against President Zourabichvili
The Procedural Affairs Committee of the Georgian Parliament will convene today to evaluate the authenticity of the signatures collected from lawmakers regarding the impeachment of President Salome Zourabichvili, as announced by Guram Macharashvili, executive secretary of the People’s Power party.
Macharashvili accused Zourabichvili of systematically violating the constitution and failing to respect the Georgian state. The case will be submitted to the Constitutional Court following the verification of the signatures.
“Zourabichvili will be remembered as a president who was impeached multiple times for systematically violating the constitution, showing disrespect for the Georgian state, and undermining the very constitution she is supposed to protect as its guarantor. Society will once again witness the extent of her constitutional violations. Once the signatures are confirmed, the lawsuit will be filed shortly, and the legislative process will commence,” he added.
Macharashvili further clarified that the purpose of the lawsuit is to deter future constitutional violations and expressed the committee’s determination to reveal Zourabichvili’s actions to the public. He criticized her for allegedly aligning with foreign powers and neglecting her constitutional duties, stating, “She is living in illusions, but at the same time, she violates the constitution and does not respect the Georgian state.”
