Parliament Speaker says no communication held on Ukrainian President’s address
Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said that no communication took place between the Georgian and Ukrainian authorities over Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s online address in the Georgian parliament.
“It is astonishing what the member of the Georgian parliament has to do with the administration of a foreign country and how she can speak on behalf of the Ukrainian side,” Papuashvili remarked.
Parliament Speaker echoed the statement of the United National Movement (UNM) MP, Khatia Dekanoidze, who said that President Zelensky was ready to address the Georgian people remotely.
The Lelo party also asked Shalva Papuashvili to invite Ukraine’s President Zelensky to deliver a speech at the plenary sitting remotely.
MP Salome Samadashvili of the Lelo party said the address was in Georgia’s interests since Georgia and Ukraine were on the same European integration path and no questions had to remain about where Georgia stands now.
In response to journalists reminding Parliament Speaker that not a single parliament in the world rejected Volodymyr Zelensky of the address, Papuashvili remarked that the Lelo party and the UNM could not be compared to Zelensky, who did not apply to the parliament of Georgia.
“I stress that no initiative of the UNM or Lelo that have to do with Ukraine will not be even discussed rather than agreed on,” Shalva Papuashvili stated.
