Georgian parliament disregarded the motivated remarks of President Salome Zourabichvili on amendments to the Election Code and overrode the veto on the gender quota abolition. One MP voted for the motivated remarks, and 28 lawmakers voted against it.
The amendments were passed as per the initial edition. Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili vetoed the abolishment of gender quotas on April 18. Based on the proposed amendments, the minimum number of candidates for membership of the Parliament of Georgia in the party list is determined by 30 instead of 60.
The amendment is also included in the Organic Law on Political Unions of Citizens, according to which the mechanism that offers additional financial incentives to parties due to the inclusion of women candidates in the lists is cancelled.
