Parliament endorses amendments to its standing orders

The Georgian parliament enacted revisions aimed at improving the parliamentary control system in line with the EC’s proposed recommendations to its general Standing Orders. Eighty-eight MPs supported the proposed amendments on Wednesday.

According to the passed amendments, the Procedural Affairs and Rules Committee would establish mandatory participation of public officials at committee meetings within ten rather than 15 days. The number of interpellations will increase.

A cabinet member will be required to submit a written report to parliament five days before the report’s delivery in the Ministerial Hour format. According to the Parliament’s Standing Orders, the Ministerial Hour cannot be held more than twice a day.
