Opposition MP Akubardia considers coalition government as main issue after elections
Opposition MP Teona Akubardia believes that the formation of a coalition government and the country’s return to the European path should be the main objective of the opposition.
According to Akubardia, the unity declaration signed by six parties should not merely serve “unity for unified lists for elections.”
“The agreement does not mean a unified list. A unified list has advantages and challenges, especially for mobilizing voters on Election Day. If some configuration is made public before July 8, this will enable them to travel to regions and start mobilization. With the active involvement of youngsters, this period should be used for neutralizing disinformation and propaganda, which the Georgian Dream uses against democratic and European course,” she said.
Teona Akubardia believes that the GD’s autocratic rule and derailing from the European path remain the main challenge.
“In this situation, cooperation is possible both for the protection of sovereignty and in establishing common stances with our Western partners, including the involvement of young people in vote protection, as well as the agreement on a joint presidential candidate after the elections. This echoes the spirit of the President’s Georgian Charter. However, a unified list is not the final decision or the only outcome.
The main objective is to ensure a larger union not to face the threat of failing to overcome the election threshold and all votes to go to the money box of the opposition to protect Georgia’s European future and democracy,” she said.
Six opposition parties, namely the United National Movement (UNM), Girchi-More Freedom, Ahali, Lelo, Droa, and Strategy Aghmashenebeli signed a declaration of unity.
