We should not be happy with arrest of the third president of Georgia - Gigi Ugulava

We should not be happy with the arrest of the third president of Georgia, – one of the leaders of European Georgia, Gigi Ugulava, said and termed the detention as political persecution.

“This political persecution, as well as the epoch of political prisoners in Georgia, started in 2013 under the regime of Bidzina Ivanishvili. Mikheil Saakashvili had to leave the country and today we have political prisoners. If we want to solve this problem, it should happen in Georgia. Georgia should continue living without political prisoners. I heard a lot of mocking and excitement about the detention, but we should not be happy. It is bad for our country, nobody should be happy with the arrest the third president of the country,” Ugulava said. He added that the possibility of Saakashvili’s extradition to Georgia is low.

Mikheil Saakashvili, former Georgian president, was arrested in Kiev late on Friday. He is currently in the pre-trial detention center.
